ER:Old Charlie

A magical gadget encountered in the Errant Road free-form on-line role-playing game. Needless to say, it (he?) doesn't exist in the Poe-verse.

Most of the time, Old Charlie is a vaguely crocodilian amulet hanging around the neck of significant NPC Keyes, reputed to have formidable magical powers but never actually seen to do anything. However, when PCs Jamie and Tamina get into trouble on the Southern Continent, Keyes, who has been tasked by the sinister Mr. Stagpoole to protect them, allows Old Charlie to show what he can do. The amulet transforms briefly into a huge tyrannosaur-like creature that devours assorted enemies, then returns to its amulet form. (Yes, that probably counts as "formidable.")

Old Charlie and Keyes are still out there somewhere, although Mr. Stagpoole granted Keyes some understandable leave following his experiences on the Southern Continent. We'll probably see them again sooner or later.
