Half Elves are part elf and part human, combining the best and worst traits of both races. They live longer than (and mature more slowly than) humans do. Some of them have birth defects making them sickly or psychotic; others seem perfect. Originally, the term applied only to direct offsprings from an elf and a human, but the meaning changed when half elves began to reproduce.

The term Errant was originally an elven term referring to half elves born with a congenital defect. However, after several spectacularly destructive incidents and a major civil war (the Errant War) sparked by religious paranoia, it crept into common elvish usage as a derogatory term for any half elf.

Only elves refer to "errants". Humans and half elves use the more readily comprehensible "half elf."
