Saturday Filler Infodump: Farrel

 

In all honesty, I don’t have even half as much background info made for Farrel as I do for Veracia and Tsuiraku, but let’s see what I can do.
Until roughly 600 years prior to the start of Errant Story, Farrel was actually a monarchy… with, despite Farrel’s overall unenlightened attitude toward equality, the throne passed from Queen to Queen.  Historians have made several theories why the crown was transferred through the females of the line, the most common of which is that some ancient female mage was powerful enough (by the standards of those days) to seize the throne and established the tradition in order to ensure the crown  for her daughters.  
At any rate, the system worked just fine until the horrific reigns of Queen Mary the 8th and her child Queen Eleanor the Third. To be fair, on the surface, Mary’s rule wasn’t that bad… she was mad and far too incompetent to run a country, of course, but she was also hardly the first ruler that could be said about.  Her part in the destroying the monarchy was actually later revealed to be all the torture and other unspeakable acts she had performed upon her child, Eleanor, before her rather mysterious death in her late 40s.  As bad as Mary was, her twisted and abused child grew up to be a hundred times worse, Eleanor’s reign was fill with so much violence, controversy, and bloodshed, that it provoked a full scale revolution just eight years after taking the throne.  And between the horrors that were found in the castle’s dungeon; and what was discovered about Eleanor after her execution; (despite the horrific nature of it all, it would become something a national joke… when ’she’ was discovered to lack certain basic necessities to be considered Queen, or a King for that matter) it was decided to dissolve the entire monarchy then and there, and paved the way for the later switch over to the vaguely Libertarian system still in use to this day.
Also, much like Lorenzel and Delphiniel, the greater majority of Farrel’s population were worshippers of Luminosita, which gave Veracia immense political influence over the nation.  After the two other countries were annexed into the theocracy, many feared that a complete take over of Farrel was only a matter of time. And it was probably only due to Veracia’s military failures in the north and the sudden arrival of two new world powers that such an event did not happen.
