Half Elves are half elf and half human, combining the best and worst traits of both races. They live longer than (and mature more slowly than) humans do. Some of them have birth defects making them sickly or psychotic. Others seem perfect.
The term Errant was originally an elven term referring to half elves born with a congenital defect. However, after several spectacularly destructive incidents and a major civil war sparked by religious paranoia, it crept into common elvish usage as a derogatory term for any half elf.
Only elves refer to "errants". Humans and half elves use the more readily comprehensible "half elf."
