Horse-drawn wagons seem to be the norm.  We've seen them twice, first when the party runs into one aflame on the road to [[Thranel]], and then when Jon [http://www.errantstory.com/archive.php?date=2006-03-17 hops a ride] on one to get away from Thranel (and Sarine).  The second wagon is fairly modern, as such things go, with four spoked wheels and room for cargo (i.e., Jon).  We can't tell much about the first one, as it's in ruins by the time we see it.

Technology in Errant Story

Being a cross-comparison of the technological state of the art in the main nations that we know about (so far): Tsuiraku, Veracia, Farrel, the Northern Confederacy, and Praenubilus Astu and the other elven lands. Why? Just for fun, and because it might be interesting to see how different cultures go about pursuing their interests -- a lesson for our times.

Firearms in Errant Story

Main article: Firearms

Tsuiraku

As far as we can tell, Tsuiraku doesn't use things as mundane and non-magical as firearms. The only hardware we've seen a Tsuirakuan carry that produces death at a distance is a Yuuki staff, which is clearly a magical gadget rather than a firearm. When Jon fires a pistol right next to Meji's face to dispose of a policeman, she's freaked -- reasonably enough.

Veracia

Firearms are certainly known in Veracia, although we don't know how widespread they are. The band of cops that hunt down Jon Amraphel (and are then magically blown away by Meji) carry rifles. However, most of the other encounters with NPC Guards, etc., don't show them as carrying firearms, nor do the Random Bully and gang who accost Meji seem to be armed with anything other than blunt weapons and testosterone. Reeve and the other guard assigned to keep Correl safe from deadly hausfrau assassins may be equipped with rifles (see bottom panel), but it's hard to be sure.

Farrel

Firearms R Us. The Gewehr Wraiths ply their trade with guns ranging from revolvers to rifles, with maybe a sawed-off shotgun thrown in for good measure if this scene is any indication. However, firearm use isn't confined to the Wraiths; the late Tony and the brigands around Thranel also have rifles, although only single-shot affairs as far as Jon can see.

Praenubilus Astu and other elven lands

The elves don't seem to use firearms either, preferring magical death at a distance to the mechanical kind.

Northern Confederacy

The Northern Confederacy certainly knows about firearms, as we see when Leah breaks up a bar fight with a well-placed shot. Unfortunately for her and Riley, the ruffians in the bar also know a single-shot rifle when they see one. Repeaters do exist there. According to Poe, the Confederacy has much better stuff than the puny weapons we've seen so far; see notes at the end of the Firearms article.

Praenubilus Astu and other elven lands

Northern Confederacy

We've seen Leah and Riley driving a horse-drawn wagon full of junk on a couple of occasions. Few details are available regarding the beasts of burden themselves, but the driver's control seems to be exerted more or less conventionally by reins. No other transportation has been shown or described in detail, although Riley thought Ian could catch a coach to Veracia from Salvus.
