Talk:Main Page
From The Heretic Knowledge Vault
So, can we edit the main page? Or do you want to keep that disclaimer thing?--Tossrock
Edit whatever you want. Make stuff. Etc. -B
Is it just me or did the thread about the wiki vanish from the forum? RMG 11:44, 18 January 2006 (CST)

Is there a point to the page or can we replace it with the one that has actual content, ie. the Table of Contents? --Kestenvarn 22:01, 21 January 2006 (CST)
Vin Diesel jokes are totally stale. Make Poe jokes for people who know Poe.
Erm... I'd rather keep the welcome and the about the author bit (which was a good idea of whoever first thought of it). We could put like a quick-reference or something like the Midlands wiki has, though. Honestly, I thought it'd take a LOT longer for this wiki to grow. --Impy 03:10, 22 January 2006 (CST)
What kind of obsessive fan would I be if I didn't act obsessive when opportunities like this arise? -DarkLight140 Sunday Jan 22 9:12 AM GMT
Monkeys (testing).
Testing part two.

Maybe this works now. The Baron 16:18, 22 January 2006 (CST)
Seeing as the mainpage is currently useless, maybe we should just copy the Errant Story article over to here?--Tossrock 17:26, 22 January 2006 (CST)
Why is it that the librarian in the logo only shows up when you're editing stuff, and it's blank otherwise? Not a major thing, I just think the wiki should have a proper logo. --Wark 20:49, 22 January 2006 (CST)
Something I need to deal with when I get a chance. The Baron 22:12, 22 January 2006 (CST)
why not make the main page similar to, or a clone of Victoria?
I can set up a Victoriaesque main page in a few minutes, if nobody has any objections. RMG 23:19, 22 January 2006 (CST)
Is M. Poe eventually going to get an article to himself eventually or is that bunch of lies going to fester there until further notice? -spiketail 20:54, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Why is it my job? Or Poe's job? The Baron 21:00, 23 January 2006 (CST)
lets build more categories and then link the categories on the main page in a victoriaesque way . categories such as: nations cities races organizations main characters gods. This makes sense to me. --Arwing 21:06, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Not saying it is. :P Just looking for suggestions. -spiketail 21:06, 23 January 2006 (CST)
How's this?--Arwing 21:54, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Was just about to say great work, Arwing. :D Lookin' good! -spiketail 21:56, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Any idea why the Cities one was acting that way? -spiketail 22:01, 23 January 2006 (CST)
because I hadn't made a page for it yet. Note that these are linked to articles not categories. I have no idea how to link to a category...--Arwing 22:08, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Erm... I don't like it. At all. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and say it's blahtastic. Have all the categories on one page, similar to how Errant Story article is now (and how Victoria works). Easier to find stuff that way. We can have redirects to the proper category, too. The Baron 22:52, 23 January 2006 (CST)
If you want to have categories on a separate page, that's okay. Just use the actual Category:whatever-style page instead of manually created pages. So much easier to maintain, and generally looks a lot better to boot. The Baron 22:53, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Is this one page you speak of not the main page? --Arwing 22:54, 23 January 2006 (CST)
like I said, I have no flippin clue how to link to a category. If you do, go ahead and fix it. It also needs fixing for looks as well.
Right now, the only idea I have is to directly link to the Category pages. The character link and M. Poe link are fine as they are, but the other... no real idea yet. -spiketail 22:56, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Linking done. Still think it's kinda ugly, but until someone has a better knowledge/idea of the system, this'll be what's used I guess. -spiketail 23:06, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Oh kay. Got our main Categories for now. Remember to add them when making a new article! Or on a page that hasn't been categorized yet. Break time and food :D -spiketail 23:56, 23 January 2006 (CST)
Trying to create a massive cheat sheet of links to comics (In wiki format), noticable characters in each strip, location and anything of particular interest mentioned. Gonna get to Ch. 2 then call it a night. Hopefully this gets created and is useful. -spiketail 04:22, 24 January 2006 (CST)
direct linking sucks. this should be easy to fix, but I can't do it, gargh... one last try. The Baron 10:38, 24 January 2006 (CST)
For future reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing --Arwing 12:34, 24 January 2006 (CST)
Added some categories; Help, Weaponry and History. Made some redirects for the Help, mainly provided links to appropriate parts of the wikipedia website. The Weaponry cat only has one entry, History two. - Sean
Okay. The character listing pages have been merged with the character catagories; what about renaming Category:Misc stuff to Category:Lore? Should the odd pages floating around (Ian Did It, Boobs, etc) be categorised as Category:Misc stuff?. There are also a couple (well, one relevant one) of articles floating around without categories that could do with one. Additionally, wikipedia supports image uploading; you can resize, caption, describe and thumbnail images, as well as gallery them. Could be interesting, very interesting with the summary pages, though the extra webspace used may not be worth it. Still, it's a thought.
Finally, useful thinglies:Linking a category... [[:Category:CategoryName]] Signing a comment... ~~~ OR ~~~~ Creating a bullet list... * List Item, ** List Item, *** List Item... Creating an ordered list... # List Item, ## List Item, ### List Item... Indenting text... : Indented text, :: Double Indented Text, ::: Triple Indent... Preserving Formatting... <pre> Text will not resolve html/wiki tags, keeps format </pre> <nowiki>Text will not resolve html/wiki tags, loses format</nowiki> Text proceeding a leading space will resolve tags, but keeps format

Suggested Main Page <- Check it out. Please? - Sean
- Bleh, going ahead and merging. - Sean
Main page was reverted to its uncluttered state by me. It's supposed to be in-universe, by the way, and not, as Ezelek put it, an "objective reader creation." Just an FYI. You should really drop by IRC and such (irc.esper.net, #en) and ask Impy or me about it. The Baron 23:14, 30 January 2006 (CST)
The Wiki shall be what the Wikiers make of it. So it has been declared, and so it is writ.
In other words... in universe or objective doesn't matter. What matters is that you guys have fun with it and a newcomer can really understand it and get a lot of information from it. --Impy 14:01, 2 February 2006 (CST)
