A moderately important honcho of the Veracian Church, not quite as high in the food chain as the Patriarch but still a couple of ply up from a garden-variety priest. Winston Maurel has recently been named a Cardinal, in the process becoming the unwitting bait in a trap laid by the Ensigerum for the Gewehr Wraiths (specifically Jon Amraphel). Of course, the trap didn't work out as expected.
Exactly what separates a Cardinal from a plain priest isn't known, but he does seem to rate an acolyte or two.
