ER:Dwarven Forge
From The Heretic Knowledge Vault
A site in the Errant Road on-line free-form role-playing game. If it exists in the Poe-verse, we don't know about it, and it's probably under a different name.
"Dwarven Forge" is what the trolls call a recently (very recently...) active volcano in central Farrel. Its "human" name, if any, is unknown. Its location is known only generally, being somewhere in the central mountain massif known as the Mountains of Madness. The compound of the nasty Malletarian sect is at its base, as is a settlement of trolls, many of whom are related to troll PC Grope.
Actually, it would be more accurate to say that these outfits were at its base, because a recent eruption of the Dwarven Forge has made a real mess of its environs. The mountain was slumbering peacefully enough, when a band of adventurers (player characters Jamie, Marcus, etc.) came along in pursuit of riches and treasure -- actually, more to get away from the Malletarians, whose path they had crossed, to the misfortune of pretty well everyone concerned. When these worthies ducked into an underground complex to escape the Malletarians, they found a curiously technological city, and their "investigations" (that's the polite word) there may or may not have had something to do with the Dwarven Forge becoming violently active. The resulting eruption devastated the troll village, and probably didn't do the Malletarians much good either. Grope and his fellow trolls Scrobian and Harzh'biah survived this paroxysm, and are now searching for other troll survivors. The human PCs also survived to flee north, first to the Waldhaxen Channel and then to points beyond.
The current state of the Dwarven Forge is unknown, but the action has moved on to more benign climes, which is probably just as well.
